Hipster Paradise: Malta’s Latest Music Festival Sees 16 Weird And Wonderful Acts Take To The Stage

Malta’s alternative music scene is still going strong, with multiple festivals dotting the year’s schedule. Now, the latest event to bring some of the quirkiest and coolest acts around is taking it up a notch with 16 acts over two nights.

This is BEWYLD.

If you’ve recognised some of the names on that list, you know it’s going to be good. If you haven’t recognised one single name, that’s because it’s time to discover some good, DIY, left-field talent out there. And Bewyld wants to help you do just that.

Hosted by Be-Wild Events, this festival has been a couple of years in the making. Born back in 2015 with a festival that blended big local names and even bigger international ones alike, Be-Wild have been rolling out intimate gigs around the island for three years. Now, much like the event that kicked it all off, the next Be-Wild appointment is going a little bigger.

“The inspiration behind this festival was just sheer wyldness”, founder Shawn James tells Lovin Malta, smiling. Bringing together a mix of tropical, dance and lo-fi music, Bewyld has an awesome 16-artist line-up ready for this weekend.

Mixing big international names like 1-800 GIRLS and My Panda Shall Fly along with beloved local acts like bark bark disco and YEWS, the festival will also be featuring some unexpected names in the mix.

More commonly associated with the clubbing scene, for example, Nicky Slim will also be gracing the stage, spinning some of the grooviest tunes around.

From Capitol K to The Suburbanite and everything in between, there really is something for every type of hipster itch.

Taking over Tigullio this weekend, Bewyld will be throwing an informal, tropical-themed DIY festival on Friday the 21st and Saturday the 22nd, and everyone’s invited.
