Last Sunday, families and locals gathered in the picturesque village of Qrendi for a unique guided walk exploring some of the area’s most treasured historical sites — all restored with the help of EU funds.

Led by Qrendi Mayor David M. Schembri, the walk gave participants a chance to discover how EU support is preserving Malta’s cultural heritage while strengthening local communities.

Organised by Servizzi Ewropej f’Malta (SEM) in collaboration with the Qrendi Local Council, the event formed part of SEM’s ongoing efforts to bring EU-funded projects closer to the public by showing how these initiatives directly benefit Maltese communities

The group set off from the Qrendi Parish Church before visiting two remarkable landmarks — the San Mattew tal-Maqluba Chapel and the Madonna tal-Ħniena Chapel. Along the way, the Mayor shared insights about Qrendi’s history and the restoration efforts that continue to protect its charm for future generations.

The morning offered the perfect mix of culture, community and exploration, giving families and residents a new appreciation for the beauty tucked within their own locality.

It was an experience that showed just how much EU funding can do — not just for buildings, but for keeping Malta’s heritage alive and connected to its people.
