‘Il-Qaddis Protettur’: Man Does… This To Get A Better View Of The Festa Fireworks
Never let it be said that my countrymen, our countrymen, are not a resourceful people. We are a small nation, but a proud one, and a great one. What we lack in raw power and resources, we make up for with our strength of will and our creativity in using the tools God has given us to maximum effect.
And this photo demonstrates that in ways few things can. The ħajt tas-sejjieħ is already a tribute to that, the concrete-less walls that the Maltese have used in infrastructure since around the 9th Century AD.
But the ħajt is not the star of the day.
The photo, shared on the Facebook page Ġaħan Online, shows a man at the Lija festa, who, in a moment of pure genius, elevated himself (literally) above the common man, to get a better view of the festa fireworks. His tools? A chair to sit on, and, the pièce de résistance, a cabinet. Or a small wardrobe. Maybe some sort of cupboard.
In any case, the absolute madman managed to plonk his chair on top of the household piece and get himself a seat around one storey high.
The best part? There’s not a ladder in sight!
I favour the interpretation that there’s one out of sight somewhere, or that he used the ħajt tas-sejjieħ as a step stool. But with the casual disregard this chap has shown for convention, I’d hardly be surprised if he flicked gravity a couple of V’s and just jumped on the damn thing.
One thing’s for sure, he did have a hell of a view.
Tag an unconventional genius who doesn’t give a sh*t about rules
