Inaugural Month Sees 750 Join Cannabis Clubs With All Enrolled Members Former Users
750 individuals have joined cannabis associations within the inaugural month of their establishment, with data indicating that these members were all previous users, Parliamentary Secretary for Reforms Rebecca Buttigieg revealed.
Since the end of January, three legally sanctioned cannabis clubs have started providing the substance to 250 members each.
Buttigieg revealed that all cannabis club members had prior experience with the drug.
She went on to express optimism at this information, stating that this indicates the new legislation has provided a safer alternative for existing users, without generating new users.
She reiterated that this was the initial objective of the law.
“The premise behind the law was never to establish a new economic sector, and the associations operate on a non-profit basis. However, they provide a means for individuals to use the drug safely and in accordance with legal regulations.”
