The Maltese government has set itself an ambitious target to develop one of the 10 best Artificial Intelligence policies in the world, and it has now invited the public to play in its part in a workshop scheduled for next month.

During the workshop on 21st Match, the Malta.AI taskforce, which is designing the strategy, will present the outcomes of some of the discussions it has had so far. However, it has insisted it is still very much open to feedback, both on how to attract AI companies and how to deploy AI in Malta, including in the public services.

“Our aim is to put Malta amongst the top 10 countries in the world with an Artificial Intelligence Policy,” parliamentary secretary for digital services Silvio Schembri said.

“Hence, the ambitious vision that we have prioritises the importance of discussion on the subject, builds awareness of the key topics and issues that will inform a national AI Framework, and identifies regulatory and fiscal measures to strengthen Malta’s appeal as a hub for foreign investment in this sector, as well as identifies the underlying skill base and infrastructure needed to support AI.”

Key speakers at the workshop include Schembri himself, Malta.AI Taskforce chairman Wayne Grixti and EY Global adviser for AI Keith Strier.
