‘It’s So Shiny’: Michelle Muscat Reviews World-Record-Breaking Emerald Necklace
Michelle Muscat has reviewed a necklace that broke two Guinness World Records and boasts 315 emeralds and 1971 fine diamonds.
“It’s weighty and it’s also very light at the same time. It’s so shiny making you so special,” she said, in awe of the piece.
The Satlada Necklace, also known as the Seven Layer Necklace, is one of Shiv Narayan’s award-winning “masterpieces” holding the Guinness World Records for the Most Emeralds Set on a Necklace and the Most Diamonds set on a Necklace.
The sourcing for the gemstones for this necklace alone took two and a half years while the piece was crafted for over four months. It further pays homage to the ancient treasures of the Nizams which is an integral part of Shiv Narayan’s heritage.
The wife of Malta’s former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat got to try this highly valued piece of work earlier this month in London where it was being showcased at the iconic Wallace Collection Museum.
“This is amazing, I cannot express the feeling of having such a wonderful creation on me,” she explained.
However, it seems like Maltese commenters were seemingly unimpressed with this display of affluence, with many calling out the scandals of corruption that the couple has been embroiled in for the past few years.
“Hasn’t she already stolen enough money,” one person wrote.
“She’s forgotten where she started,” said another.
“You can get that much with corruption.”
“How many of those did you buy with the hospital saga?” said one woman, seemingly referring to the Vitals-Steward Hospital that was deemed fraudulent and cost the country €400 million.
“It would look better around her neck in Corradino,” said one man, replying to somebody complimenting her “regal elegance”.
