Time to polish up your Maltese – Modern Poetry In Translation, an international magazine, will be focusing on the Maltese language in their 2023 issue for June/July.

”This issue will focus on poems translated from any Maltese language, including Maltese Sign Language, Maltese, and English; however, poems in English must be written by Maltese poets,” the magazine recently stated.

Everyone is welcome to send in their work. Then, Khairani Barokka, the editor, will choose the winning works to be published.

Founded by Ted Hughes and Daniel Weissbort, in 1965, the magazine’s aim is ”to get poetry out from behind the Iron Curtain into a wider circulation in English and to benefit writers and the reading public in Britain and America by confronting them with good work from abroad”.

The magazine specified that it especially wants work by deaf and disabled translated and poets, and work in braille and translated from signed languages.

The deadline for submission is 13th April 2023.
