On International Mother Language Day, which is celebrated on 21st February, an event called ‘Ħoss il-Malti – Serata ta’ Mużika bil-Malti” will be hosted in Valletta.
”To celebrate the Maltese language on International Mother Language Day, we will be listening to a curated selection of music in Maltese, from the past to the present day,” one of the event organisers stated.
The event will take place at the Offbeat bar, in Valletta, at 6pm and is being organised by l-aċċent, Offbeat and the European Commission Representation in Malta.
Admission is free of charge. There will also be books and magazines related to the Maltese language, as well as some sweet surprises.

International Mother Language Day is observed yearly to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism.
”Globally 40% of the population does not have access to an education in a language they speak or understand. But progress is being made in multilingual education with growing understanding of its importance, particularly in early schooling, and more commitment to its development in public life,” the UN states.
Attending the ”Ħoss il-Malti” event can be a great way to educate oneself on the music of our ancestors, whilst still enjoying a chill night out with friends.
