Peppa Il-Ħanżira? James Ryder Says He’d Love To Have Popular Kids Shows Dubbed In Maltese
MEP candidate James Ryder has admitted he doesn’t have many policies… but one thing he’d love to work on if he had to be elected is to have popular international kids shows dubbed in Maltese.
“We’d be able to get enough funding for licences for the larger animation networks – so let’s say Disney, Netflix, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network – and through them we can actually implement the shows that our kids love watching on their tables,” Ryder said during the country’s first MEP candidate debate, organised yesterday at Sir Temi Zammit Hall by Lovin Malta and Malta Today.

“How amazing would it be if we can have those accessible to our children in Maltese?” Ryder continued. “And fun fact: Iceland does Peppa Pig in Icelandic with a much smaller population than ours, and not only that: Paw Patrol is dubbed in the UK, in English. They redub it in British English for accent training.”
Stressing on his desire to “increase accessibility to Maltese to children”, Ryder went on to suggest extending the initiative to cinemas, incentivising “the latest blockbuster dubbed in Maltese, or at least starting small with subtitles”.
Do you agree with Ryder’s suggestion?
