Reforms Parliamentary Secretary Rebecca Buttigieg announced that an amendment will be added to strengthen the law regarding Affirmation of Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Gender Expression Act.

The main goal of this amendment is to reaffirm the notion that being different is totally normal, and will see the banning of the marketing and advertising of conversion therapy.

Buttigieg insisted it is still a major concern that there are individuals who continue to promote conversion therapy under false pretences.

She also mentioned that although there are only a few who continue to promote conversion therapy, conversion therapy is not just not socially accepted but even its advertisements are also illegal in the eyes of the law.

Gabriella Calleja, head of the Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, Gender Expression and Sex Characteristics Unit also spoke positively about this amendment.

She said that the original law which was passed in 2016 helped to value individuals of every sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression to be given the same value as everyone else.

Regardless of their identity, they are in no way sick, deficient, or disabled in any form.

Calleja ended off by saying that the amendment will continue to strengthen the effectiveness of this law.
