Malta Pride 2024: Celebrating 20 Years Of Progress And Visibility
Kicking off tomorrow, the 2024 Malta Pride Week will run from 6th September to the 15th, marking 20 years since the country’s first Pride celebration.
This year’s theme, #20YearsofPride, highlights not just the celebration of diversity, but also the ongoing fight for LGBTIQ+ rights and visibility.
The week-long event will feature nearly 40 activities, including exhibitions, quiz nights, concerts, and so much more.
Malta Pride’s main event, the Pride March, will take place on Saturday 14th September, starting from Triton Fountain in Valletta at 6pm followed by a concert in St. George’s Square.
The event organisers emphasised that while Malta has made significant strides—being ranked first in Europe for LGBTQ+ equality for nine consecutive years—there’s still much more to accomplish globally and locally.
Pride is not just a celebration, but a protest against ongoing discrimination and lack of representation for many in the LGBTIQ+ community.
This year’s celebration honours those who have fought for equality over the past two decades while recognising the work that remains to be done. Events like this continue to shine a light on the progress and challenges within the community.
Will you be joining the Pride celebrations this year?
