At least five new flag proposals for a new Malta Pride Flag have been released today, trying to combine the traditional Maltese look with the rainbow colours representing LGBTQI issues.
Following a nationwide controversy earlier this year with some people actually thinking the Maltese flag would be replaced by a symbolic one that incoroported the rainbow, Malta Pride has now put the new flag designs up for a public vote, inviting people to like their favourite through Facebook. The new flags take various shapes: some incorporate the famous eight-pointed Maltese Cross, others meld the colours together, and some big Maltese hearts even make an appearance.
Which one is your favourite? You can find all the proposals below.
A clear favourite, as far as likes are concerned.
White, red… then the rest of the rainbow.
The Maltese flag in this design remains untouched, being instead surrounded by the familiar rainbow flag.
Putting the rainbow quite literally at the heart of the Maltese flag.
… or just switching the above around.
And the original proposal.
The one that started it all.
The new proposals were unveiled last night.
“Do you remember the controversy about our Malta Pride Flag?” Malta Pride asked on Facebook.
“We have asked the public to submit their ideas and these are the proposals that we received. React on your favourite one. If you think we should keep the original one, please vote for it too,” they said.
