Gay couple and vocal parents TwoPapasMalta have responded to haters who criticised them for taking their children to the Pride events on Saturday, telling them that “there isn’t a no entry sign for children”.

“Pride is a celebration that’s open to all. So yes, there were children at Pride. Children of LGBTIQ+ parents and children of heterosexual parents, why not?” Noel Vella Galea said in a video posted on the pair’s Facebook page.

Noel explained that the married couple received backlash from various followers who commonly comment on their wall with phrases like “God Bless”.

These commenters seemingly had a problem with the fathers because they took their children with them to the LGBTIQ+ celebration.

The critics argued that taking children to Pride equates to “brainwashing them to become gay”, “done because you want attention”, and “using children for propaganda”.

However, while Noel admitted that the messages are negative, he explained that he and his husband still saw it as a positive thing because it meant that children were there.

“But still, it’s not about where you take children – it’s about how you bring them up and what values you instil in them as parents, that’s what matters.”

He explained that with the commenters’ logic, one wouldn’t be able to involve their kids in things like fashion shows or ads because in those cases, parent’s will be “using and abusing” their children.

Neither would they be able to take their children to the beach because that too would cause some type of controversy, he explained.

“There are some people that speak against such inclusion because they experienced trauma in their past. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions,” he continued.

“But Chris and I will continue our journey that we started four years ago.”

Noel further explained that such negative feedback aimed at inclusive LGBTIQ+ activities only justifies that society still needs to learn, accept and respect queer inclusion.

The couple adopted their two kids at different points in 2021. Both of their sons, Santiago and Daniel, were adopted from Portugal.

The loving family has been thriving and hope to act as proof that same-sex adoption is a beautiful thing.

Why do you think the commenters had such a problem with children being at inclusive Pride events?
