MEP Cyrus Engerer spoke out against Italy’s recent stance on LGBTIQ rights during a session in the European Parliament.

“We will not stop fighting Italian fascists when it comes to LGBTIQ rights,” Cyrus wrote on his Instagram page.

“Their latest move, following Russia, Hungary and Poland, aims at cancelling diversity from the Italian Public Broadcaster,” the MEP wrote.

During his speech, Engerer named five individuals who he personally knew from his teenage years. These individuals had tragically passed away because they felt they wouldn’t be accepted by society.

“We march for you. We legislate for you. We fight for you in this parliament, on Italian television, in Hungarian bookstores and on Polish Streets,” the MEP added.

“That is not on and is dangerous!” Cyrus concluded in his statement.

This comes after the Italian senate is set to approve an oppressive bill that would make surrogacy a universal crime that would be prosecuted even if committed abroad – a common practice since surrogacy is illegal in the peninsula.

If the bill becomes law, couples expanding their families through a surrogate living abroad will face a fine of up to almost €1 million as well as up to two years in jail.
