The official statistical office of the European Union has published an infographic showing “Malta In Numbers”, just in time for yesterday’s Independence Day celebrations.

And while some stats might not come as a surprise to many locals – such as the islands’ total area or population – it is quite interesting to see how Malta stacks up when looked at from a bird’s eye, European-level view.

Meanwhile, municipal waste recycling is significantly low, with Malta’s 14% coming in at less than a third of the EU’s 49%.

A look at the percentages of imports and exports of goods, on the other hand, shows the balance Malta still holds when it comes to both’s context within and outside of the European Union.
