53 Clean Ups To Be Organised By Local Councils Across Malta And Gozo

On the occasion of World Cleanup Day, celebrated on 20th September, 53 ‘Clean Up Days’ will take place across Malta and Gozo. These will be organised by the respective Local Councils with financial support from the Local Government Division.
This was announced by the Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government, Alison Zerafa Civelli, and the Director General of the Local Government Division, Emil Vassallo.
Parliamentary Secretary Alison Zerafa Civelli said that the government continues to support Local Councils in keeping their localities cleaner. She stated that this initiative will also help raise greater awareness about the importance of cleaner communities.
“The government, together with the Local Councils, is doing its utmost to ensure our localities are clean. These activities are just a symbol of the daily work being done, but their goal is to raise more awareness among the public. Therefore, my appeal is for residents of the respective localities to participate in these activities so that they can better appreciate the daily efforts and also raise awareness about the importance of keeping our country clean,” said the Parliamentary Secretary.
Parliamentary Secretary Zerafa Civelli also noted that some of the Local Councils located along the coast have chosen to go further by organising underwater cleanup activities. She emphasized that underwater waste is much harder to collect, and through these activities, it is expected that greater awareness will also be raised about how we should keep our seas clean.
Meanwhile, the Director General of Local Government, Emil Vassallo, stated that this was another successful scheme launched by the Division, in which the Local Councils participated enthusiastically.
He mentioned that from time to time, various schemes are launched through which Local Councils become more active and are able to implement different infrastructural and cultural projects.
