At Mass In Honour Of Virgin Mary, Candle Placed For Each Survivor Of Dwejra Fireworks Factory Explosion
Mosta residents celebrated Mass in honour of the Virgin Mary last night after 11 members of the Soċjeta Piroteknika 15 ta’ Awissu fireworks factory survived a recent explosion.
The factory published a photo of several people congregated at the mass, stating that 11 candles were placed in front of a statue of the Virgin Mary to symbolically represent the 11 members.
It was celebrated at the Mosta Rotunda, which of course has its own history with close shaves, after it was pierced by a Luftwaffe bomb in 1942 as people had gathered for Mass but which failed to explode.
Following the explosion at the Dwejra fireworks factory, several people pointed to the fact that a small stone shrine to the Virgin Mary survived the blast as a sign of higher powers.
Reflecting on the tragic accident, Mosta councillor Pia Bonnici said one should have faith that “the Virgin Mary stood still, gave us hope, life and a future to look forward to”.
“To all my friends who were there, I tell you to stay strong and that you are not alone. To my friends who got injured, I tell you we will stay by your side, in the hope that you will rejoin us.”
