Her Excellency President Myriam Spiteri Debono officially presented the Letters of Appointment to David Muscat, who is now Malta’s Representative to the State of Palestine.

Muscat steps into the role following His Excellency Franklin J. Aquilina, who has just been appointed Ambassador to Libya.

The timing couldn’t have been more historic. On the very same day, Malta, through Prime Minister Robert Abela, formally recognised the State of Palestine during the United Nations Assembly in New York. The President described the move as a step that could help advance the cause of lasting peace.

During the meeting, Muscat underlined the urgent need for humanitarian support for the Palestinian people in Gaza. He noted that just recently, the Maltese Government sent 250 tonnes of flour to help those in need.

President Spiteri Debono also highlighted that this historic decision is a chance to strengthen Malta’s ties with Palestine, paving the way for deeper cooperation in the years ahead.

It’s a significant day for Malta on the international stage, and one that shows the country is stepping up when it comes to global diplomacy.
