From Cheeky To Borderline Racist, Malta Reacts To The Question ‘Have You Ever Been Told To Go Back To Your Country?’

Last week we asked the Maltese internet a dangerous but important question: “Have you ever been told to go back to your country?”

The responses we got (and there were many) ranged from the expected to the absolute shocking; and if there’s anything to take away from this little social experiment, it’s that some people want to be left the F alone.

So here they are, some of the best answers we received, in all their glory…

If you thought this phrase was just an inside joke between islanders, you’ll be surprised (or shocked) to know there were quite a few foreigners who have actually been through the terrible experience of being told to go back to their country.

Camilla Appelgren herself chimed in with a bit of sarcasm…

But then we have Maltese telling other Maltese to go back to their country… huh?

And that one time a Gozitan told a Maltese to go back to their country… fair enough?

But it seems like the ‘go back to your country’ mentality isn’t just a Maltese phenomenon…

On the flip side, there are those who never experienced someone telling them to go back to their country.

Others, though, even insinuated that if you were told to go back to your country, it was because you deserved it.
