IN PHOTOS: From Lambrettas To Harleys, Żabbar Celebrated Its Patron Saint With A Super Cool Bike Parade
Each locality has its unique take on Maltese festas, but Żabbar still manages to be a particular stand-out.
One of the latest festas of the summer also has one of the coolest traditions in honour of its patron saint, Our Lady of Graces, involving bikers and cyclists parading through the streets from Rabat all the way to Żabbar on one exciting pilgrimage.
Il-Pellegrinaġġ tar-Roti u Muturi is an old tradition that began in 1951 and features all sorts of bikes, from lambrettas to choppers, to sidecars and road bikes and this year’s parade had some of the best two-wheelers we’ve seen so far!

Żabbar’s patron saint, Our Lady of Graces, also happens to be the Patron Saint of Cycling.

The journey takes approximately three hours in total and ends with everyone convening in Zabbar square before prayers and blessings of cyclists and motorcyclists take place.

This year’s pilgrimage also attracted an international crowd, most notably the mayor of Gela in Sicily, a city that also celebrates the feast of Our Lady of Grace.
With the conclusion of the Żabbar festa, there remains just one this summer; St. Augustine in Valletta. If you haven’t yet, you need to give a Maltese summer festa a try before it’s too late!
