Now that the year is well underway, we’ve all got some resolutions to start working on. With so many of those revolving around health and fitness, gyms see a spike in membership bookings – so it’s time to break the mould. Here are a couple of other alternative ways of exercising this year:

1. Freediving

Malta is currently going through a pretty cold spell, but that hasn’t really stopped some people from swimming. And if you can muster up the courage to do that, then free diving is definitely where it’s at for 2017.

Descending underwater on a single, long breath is definitely something that we’d do. Even if it wasn’t so physically and mentally rewarding, Deep Med Centre offer some great freediving courses!

2. Piloxing

If you think pilates is a little too mellow, then how about infusing it with a super intensive dose of boxing?

Piloxing is non-stop cardio that aims to burn as many calories as humanly possible and get you insanely ripped. So if you’re interested in something extremely rewarding this year, try it with Louise or Body Bits.

3. Zumba

Zumba is still alive and quite literally kicking. And with its increasing popularity in the last couple of years, joining a Zumba class is now easier, and more fun than ever!

4. Cycling

It’s amazing how many different things you’ll notice when you’re biking to work instead of driving a car and being stuck in a traffic jam full of rage, as our very own Chris found out earlier last year. Add that to actually getting a daily workout, and this one’s a sure deal.

5. Pole Dancing

Yes, really. Pole dancing is becoming all the rage abroad, and its quickly catching on in Malta too. An incredible way to work out while showing off what a strong and sensual individual you are. If you’re interested in finding out more, check out Revive Studio and FreeMyMe.

6. Crossfit

Crossfit is way more than just a simple trip to the gym, and if you really want to take it up a notch in 2017, then look no further. There are dozens of facilities that merit looking into, including CrossFit F15 and CrossFit 356.

7. Yoga

Ah, the art of zen. Yoga will always be on the list of fun things you can do while still getting a good old workout out of it, so this shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone! Deep Med Centre are one of the various organisations that offer yoga classes in Malta, so you really have no excuse!

Tag someone who would be up for a healthier and more exciting 2017!
