Malta can get very crowded at times but one particular homeowner might have just found the perfect solution to get away from it all.

Passers-by in Sliema spotted a unique sight when looking out to sea last weekend… a literal floating house.

“I saw it coming from the St. Elmo breakwater and it was heading to St. Julian’s,” Instagram user @will_1000rr told Lovin Malta as he sent in photos of the floating house just outside Qui Si Sana.

“Everyone on the promenade was surprised, taking pictures, and talking about it.”

The floating house appeared to have continued moving up and was spotted in Balluta Bay earlier today.

While very common in countries like The Netherlands and the United Kingdom, barges and floating homes are still a very new phenomenon for our islands.

However, with the island’s population constantly increasing and property prices constantly on the rise, maybe this is the future of living in Malta?

Would you live in a house like this?
