Like clockwork, one of Mother Nature’s first beautiful displays for the new season arrived late last night on the first day of October. As signs of rain gathered and temperatures slightly dipped during the day, more and more clouds kept forming over the Maltese islands, until, by Monday night, the skies were lit in a display that had many people getting out of bed and reaching for their cameras.

While it wasn’t the largest single cell thunderstorm to hit the island, the huge active light show was highly welcomed by people who have been waiting for rain and thunder to properly hit our islands for months, and last night definitely didn’t disappoint.

The storm lasted some four hours, and as we wait for more of the same potentially coming our way over the next two days, here are some of the most impressive shots from yesterday’s storm over Malta.

1. As signs of last weekend’s close shave with a Medicane passed, the wind picked up again yesterday afternoon

2. Again, the north coast was one of the first to feel the wrath of the incoming storm

3. As the sun set, the thunder and lightning punctually rolled in

4. And there seemed to be no stopping the storm as it got darker and colder

5. By nighttime, local photographers took to the streets to capture the perfect shot

5. With some going out of their way to find the perfect vantage point

6. Even catching some dramatic scenes on the horizon

7. But you didn’t have to look far into the distance to find the perfect light show… and an unforgettable shot!
