Malta Saves Christmas For 750 Kids

Less than 48 hours after an urgent public appeal for promised Christmas presents for children in need was put out, over 750 children will now be receiving their dream gift after all of Malta stepped up and made sure that no child was left gift-less this Christmas.

“All the pledges have been fulfilled and I envisage that all the gifts will be delivered within the next few days. The response has been incredible” Remenda Grech, Operations Manager at Children’s Dreams, told Lovin Malta.

“At this point, all I can say is a huge thank you for the incredible support we have been getting – it shows that when there are children involved, everyone joins forces to do what they can to help.”

After Lovin Malta reported on the over 750 missing pledges that had missed the deadline and risked hundreds of Maltese children from not having their dreams fulfilled this Christmas, Maltese people with all types of means stepped up to the challenge, helping literally hundreds of pledges become fulfilled in less than two days.

Maltese taxi company eCabs have even taken over logistics work for the charity, and their office in St. Julian’s has become a drop-off point for the children’s presents. They will then take all the gifts to the charity’s headquarters in Luqa.

Ms. Grech wanted to thank everyone who heard Children’s Dreams appeal, no matter how they contributed.

“We even had a pensioner who told us ‘all I can afford is ten euros but the children need it’ and I can’t tell you how much we truly appreciate these kinds of acts,” Ms. Grech said.

“Everyone is important when it comes to making these dreams come true,” she said.

A representative from the Polidano Group, one of the companies that came forward today to help Children’s Dreams achieve their goal, told Lovin Malta that when he had “mentioned the issue to Mr. Polidano, he told us to see what they need and ‘let’s help them’.”

“He told us to ‘just take the money and get what they need.’ He even called the organisers to check how much money they need to cover certain toys. I can assure you he gave the more cash then they needed. They told him that it was too much but he told them to give them the best possible toys,” the Polidano representative said.

And this was just one of many companies who showed solidarity with the Children’s Dreams charity in their time of need.

With just a few more days of collecting the promised pledges to go, and their store room quickly filling up with gifts now that enough awareness has been raised, Ms. Grech wanted to send a big thank you to Lovin Malta for “all the coverage. Really, thank you so much for helping us create the awareness we needed.”
