Malta’s First Fully Electric 9-Metre Low-Floor Buses Launched

Malta Public Transport has taken a big step towards greener, more comfortable travel with the launch of two new fully electric nine-metre low-floor buses, the first of their kind on the island.

These medium-sized buses are perfect for village centres and narrow streets, where larger vehicles can struggle, and they’re already operating on several routes. The €800,000 investment brings Malta Public Transport’s electric fleet to 42 buses, with 36 in Malta and six serving Gozo’s Park and Ride service.

Passengers will notice more than just the eco-friendly ride. The buses feature larger passenger information screens, digital mirror camera systems for better driver visibility, and two charging sockets for fast recharging when needed.

Konrad Pule, General Manager of Malta Public Transport, said: “These new buses reflect our commitment to continuously improve the quality of our service. They represent another step forward in our mission to provide a service that is not only reliable and comfortable, but also sustainable. Investing in electric mobility helps us reduce our carbon footprint while improving the overall experience for our passengers.”

With these new additions, Malta is one step closer to cleaner streets, quieter rides, and a greener public transport system.

Would you trade your usual ride for a quieter, eco-friendly electric bus?
