Malta’s Planning Authority Has Released An Educational Campaign… But Some People Are Just Not Having It

“Colours are beautiful… but not all are appropriate for the facade of your townhouse. Tiles look nice… but the facade of your townhouse is not a bathroom.”

The Planning Authority’s new campaign to regulate the way Malta’s townhouses are restored sounds good on paper, but it looks like it might’ve backfired with numerous people on social media.

The #Irrestawradarek Educational Campaign is aimed at regulating the facades of townhouses across Malta and Gozo, and two Facebook posts that have already been shared by the PA refer to which paint colours you should shy away from using, and why ornate tiles shouldn’t make it to a townhouse’s facade.

Pa Campaign

The campaign is in an essence an important debate to kickstart, but people across social media platforms think that the PA have got their priorities all wrong

There was one particularly common sentiment among people’s comments; when Malta is looking more like a concrete jungle, shouldn’t the worrying facade designs of apartment blocks be given a campaign instead?

“So it’s the tiles that suffocate uniformity and not the monstrosities that you yourselves have been ruining Sliema with?” one person asked, with other users agreeing that the PA’s priorities sounded warped with their latest campaign.

Some even went so far as to call the Planning Authority the “biggest example of disrespect to Maltese heritage.”

One confused Facebook user asked, “If someone could show me where these city and town houses of ours are I’d really appreciate it because all I’m seeing are apartments.”

Pa Comments

Lovin Malta have reached out to the Planning Authorities for a statement on their latest education campaign, but no reply was received at the time of writing.
