Maltese Student Organisations Join Forces To Create ‘Safe Space’ Free Of Political Bias
Opinionated, loud and eager to share our views is how most would describe the Maltese. But having your voice heard tends to come at the cost of unwanted exposure.
Student media organisations The Third Eye, The Yuppie and Insite have all come together to solve this issue – at least as far as University level goes – through their a new organisation, Speak.
Recognising that public debates on the island tend to be highly politicised, Speak are trying to bring the civility back to conversation by creating a safe space for people to share their views without any political bias. Through Speak, students will be able to challenge, debate and discuss major issues in Malta.

Speak will be a monthly event where discussions, panels, and seminars will be held and organised by the three student media organisations, who plan to also invite speakers to the planned sessions for a more professional outlook on the discussions.
“Open discussion is imperative for a functioning society,” Insite representative and Speak member Emma Asciak said. Julia Cini, a member of The Yuppie and Speak, explained that they hope to “keep it as non-political as possible, while also talking about current affairs.”
