Maltese Woman’s Tattoos Cause A Stir On Online Community
A photo uploaded by popular Facebook page The People Of Malta yesterday has caused a whole online debate, even though it all started with a heartwarming message about not allowing people’s negativity to bring you down.
The photo, taken in Bormla, shows Shagana, a young Maltese woman who has two sleeve tattoos and a chest piece. “Unfortunately, as soon as people see me they are shocked and are judgemental,” Shagana said. She went on to explain how even though that attitude hurts her because she does not smoke or drink and she’s never made use of any drugs, she doesn’t let it bring her down. “I am not concerned with what others think of me as long as I live a decent life,” she concluded. “I love tattoos and will keep adding more.”
The post got more than 1,500 likes in less than 24 hours, with hundreds of people commenting. Most of them reached out to Shagana to congratulate her positive attitude, urging her to not give up and keep doing her.
“Do not judge people especially when you don’t want to be judged yourself,” one person said. “It is such a wonderful feeling to be able to portray what you look like on the outside to how you feel on the inside,” another said. “Nobody should judge… and you look beautiful!”
A handful of other comments, however, pointed out that, in the process, Shagana’s words seem to have inadvertently thrown some shade towards people who drink or smoke.
And while a lot of people came to her defence to explain that she did not mean it in a judgemental way, it still sparked a long debate which continues to rage on as we speak.
