‘Mela Is Vital’: Locals And Foreigners Hit Us With Their Favourite Maltese Stereotypes After Expat Asks For Advice

A Facebook post asking for advice about visiting Malta caused quite a few laughs after some of the advice got just a little bit too real.

A woman looking to enjoy her new life on our beautiful little island asked a group full of Maltese and fellow expats what a new arrival to the island should add to their to-do list.

The comments quickly fired off, with this guy swooping in to tell her all about the chaos she’d find.

There was some actual advice about places to visit too, but this comment predicted exactly what was to come

This guy dropped some sick advice on what to serve alongside her freshly-made list

Too true my man, too true.

And of course, it wasn’t too long before people started mentioning the cars…

Speaking of expats and international adventures, I had to go on one myself to track down this GIF another commentator left, but here it is…

Blending humour with actual advice, this dude totally knows what’s up in Malta

As does his back-up crew

My favourite came from this absolute genius, who managed to sum up all of Malta’s contemporary socio-meterological issues in seven letters

In all fairness, there was plenty of actual advice, encouraging the poster to sort out administrative documents, apply for a bus card, and not to worry about all the explosions they’d hear during the village festa. And to try pastizzi, of course.

Of course, this is stuff that us locals all know, so I’ll leave you with one more piece that might slip under the radar a bit more often than it should…

We all know the island’s beautiful, but it never hurts to remember that there’s a lot more to appreciate if we take a step or two out of our usual way.
