New Swings, Greenways And Outdoor Gym: Pietà Marina Garden Gets Full Upgrade

The Pietà Marina Garden, once abandoned, has been completely regenerated into a modern and safe open space spanning over 4,400 m² in the heart of Pietà.
Minister for the Environment, Miriam Dalli, and Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works, Omar Farrugia, officially inaugurated the space this week.
The project, led by the Grand Harbour Regeneration Corporation (GHRC) with Ambjent Malta and the Department of Public Works, has transformed the garden into a spot for families, children, the elderly, and anyone looking to relax or exercise.
Highlights include a 210-metre greenway for cyclists and joggers, almost 1,000 m² of upgraded pedestrian pathways, restored benches, new swings, and an outdoor exercise structure.
Minister Dalli said the garden “offers safe walking paths and facilities for physical activity, encourages a healthier lifestyle, and strengthens the ecological character and biodiversity of the locality.”
Farrugia added that the project is part of a broader vision to create safe, accessible public spaces across Malta, with more pedestrian zones and open spaces coming soon.
Visitors will also enjoy upgraded lighting, a restored fountain, and improved recreational facilities, alongside new trees, shrubs, and seasonal plants supported by a sustainable irrigation system. The garden’s historical monuments were preserved, blending cultural heritage with modern leisure.
The inauguration was attended by Pietà Local Council representatives, GHRC CEO Gino Cauchi, Ambjent Malta Director General Herman Galea, and DPW Director General Stephen Bonello.
This project complements recent improvements along the Msida seafront and Pietà promenade, creating a continuous, safe, and modern promenade around the Grand Harbour.
