One Out Of Six People At Risk Of Poverty In 2024 As Seen From NSO Survey

A survey published by the National Statistics Office (NSO) earlier today reveals that one out of six people was at risk of poverty in 2024.
The data was extracted from the annual European Statistics on Income and Living Conditions conducted by the NSO. It revealed that the number of people in households with a national equivalised income below the at-risk-of-poverty line (€12,258) was 92,690. This means that the rate has increased by 0.2% when compared to 2023.
This translates into several facts, including that more than one in four people don’t afford one week holidays. Additionally, 18.3% of respondents declare that their household would not be able to settle an unexpected financial expense of €900. When it comes to personal items, 11.1% said they weren’t able to afford to participate in leisurely activities each week.

The Minister for Social Policy and Children’s Rights, Michael Falzon, said that the government will remain sensitive to those who are in financial difficulty in our community. Falzon went on to say that the government is aware of these hardships and that it promised to continue introducing more social measures in favour of workers, pensioners and the elderly, families with children, people with disabilities and people who are more vulnerable, to continue improving the quality of life.
