Parties To Parasailing: Here Are 9 Things To Tick Off Your Summer Bucket List In Malta Before Winter Bites Back At The Heat

Whether you’re a summer person or not you ought to make the most of the warmth we have in Malta. We literally get 300+ days of sunshine throughout the year and, well, this one’s been a right old scorcher.

With the holidays soon over (boo!) and school starting soon, offices are no longer able to shut down thanks to Santa Marija et al and, well, a night out on the weekend is great but no one deserves to risk having their face permanently gurned thanks to the winds that rush through the Paceville Piazza come October time.

Make the most of your what’s left this summer with this little bad boy of a bucket list

1. Head to Comino on a jet ski, duh

Forget the usual Sliema Ferries cruise and pineapple cocktail – grab your friends and hire a jetski or two for the day. Comino is reachable from St. George’s Bay within 40 minutes and they’re also a pretty rad means of transport.

2. Parasail over the Mediterranean Sea

While it won’t get you to Comino, it’s still a stylish experience worthy of any thrill seeker. Anyone at any age can strap themselves in and have an aerial view of Malta in live action.

3. A night out not in Paceville, Uno or Gianpula

We’ve all been there, we’ve all done that and we’ve all got the t-shirt. Buġibba is a great place to start, but there are a whole host of other places where you can get up and dance the night away if you look hard enough.

4. Take a walk through the Three Cities and learn some history

Did you know that the holes above the gates and walls of Birgu’s fortifications were used to drop hot oils onto intruders and attackers below? Early settlers in Malta were fuckin savage but hey – they left us some pretty decent historical areas to explore.

5. Channel your inner wandering hippie and picnic beside Chadwick Lakes

Because Malta does actually have other green areas, we just have a fascination to fixate on the ones in danger. Chadwick Lakes have been around since the late 19th Century and if we were still in the 70’s we’d suggest pulling up in your blue corvette with a hamper of Desserta confectionery but at least we’re now in a post-Mintoffian era and can enjoy the fruits of our import taxes.

Note: you may have to wait until next year before you can take a dip, as the lakes have recently been emptied ahead of restoration works in the area.

6. Laser tag, duh

What better way to wave goodbye to your summer hols than a childly game of laser tag? Just look at how much fun you can have running away from an AK that won’t do any damage.

7. Pretend you’re Mario or Luigi (or Peach – we don’t judge) with Go Karting

Mario Kart featured in everyones childhood and if it didn’t feature in yours then we’re sorry but you missed out on a lot. Not many people know (or seem to acknowledge the fact) that it is possible in Malta, so get on it before the mainstream attack.

8. Two words: Bar. Crawl.

Okay, it’s back to St Julian’s but bar crawls are fantastic ways to meet new people – friends you’ll keep for the rest of your life or just add to your endless list of online mutuals. Either way, you visit every club in Paceville or whichever area you choose to circle and get a taste of everything on offer. Whether you regret it all the next morning or not is all up to you…

9. Camping

Legit the best way to get back in touch with nature, camping allows you to escape from all the hassle of inner island life and return to a space of comfort and simplicity. Nothing but you, your friends, the stars and skies and whatever alcoholic supplies that one friend who can’t spend 24 hours sober decides to bring instead of anything actually useful (like, toilet paper or something).

Disclaimer: Make sure to obtain the required permits for your camping trip. Fires require permits as well, and if you want to take your furry friends with you, make sure the area is accepting of them, too.
