Popular British Comedian Mark Steel Breaks Down Malta In Entire Show On The ‘Glorious’ Island
Left-wing comedian Mark Steel’s well-known for his observational comedy, often found in cities around the UK poking fun at the locals and dropping some very relatable humour – and his latest episode about Malta ticks all the right boxes.
Recorded in front of a crowd in St Julian’s, Steel goes into some very recognisable stories and local humour, talking about everything from Malta’s incredible history to, well, Kinnie.
In this episode of Mark Steel’s In Town, he poked fun at Maltese people with English first names and Maltese double-barrelled surnames, as well as the country’s fervent support of anything football-related… as long as it’s Italian football or English football.
Never mind whatever’s in the news, the LAST In Town of this series is on TONIGHT and it comes from MALTA, at 6.30 on Radio 4 – it will change your life, for about 29 minutes.

He also praised Valletta for its architecture, history, and, well, dustiness
When it came to Malta’s history, he said: “you really do matter here in the middle of the Mediterranean”, before going into all the invaders that owned Malta throughout the centuries.
And while he gave some compliments, such as saying Malta was known as a perfect place for holidays, he also made fun of our holy grail of beverages, Kinnie, which he called a “mad drink”.
Steel also figured out why so many Maltese people go to church: it’s because church in the only place left in overcrowded Malta where you can actually get some space.
