Rainbow Road: Sliema Gets Its Very Own Pride Street Ahead Of Tomorrow’s March

Taking up a sizeable portion of the popular Tower Road, Malta’s very own ‘Rainbow Road’ was unveiled in front of the NOOS store, who actually form part of the multi-organisation initiative behind what made Sliema’s roads a little bit more colourful this morning.

Sliema’s local council attended a press launch for Malta’s first Pride-themed road portion this afternoon, ahead of tomorrow’s march in Valletta with hopes of sending a message of solidarity from neighbouring localities.

The initiative is a collaboration between the private sector, local government, central government and Allied Rainbow Communities (ARC), and is aimed to continue promoting true equality and celebrate the LGBTIQ Community.

By working hard hand in hand with the Ministry for Transport and Infrastructure, Transport Malta and the Sliema Local Council, NOOS sought out the safest options, along advice from prominent foreign figures and architects… especially considering that the road now also has large text written on it.

“NOOS Malta believe that the initiative provides a powerful visual to reflect the freedom we have and enjoy, today, tomorrow and together, while still reminding us all of the ongoing protest we have for our global community as a whole,” the store told Lovin Malta following the road’s opening.

Workers took to Tower Road in the early hours of the morning to paint the Malta Pride logo (rainbow motif and all) ahead of the busy Friday morning, which saw commuters and residents alike wake up to the surprise.

We wanted a landmark of significance and we damn well got one, y’all. The street is ready for strutting!
