Heritage Malta is inviting the public to step into a magical evening of history, music, and culture with the final 2025 edition of Museums by Candlelight in Rabat and Mdina.

On Saturday 20th September, from 7pm until midnight, three of Malta’s most iconic sites, St Paul’s Catacombs, the Domvs Romana, and the National Museum of Natural History, will open their doors with extended evening hours, illuminated by the warm glow of thousands of candles and accompanied by live music.

At St Paul’s Catacombs, visitors can explore Malta’s earliest Christian heritage in underground chambers dating back to Punic, Roman, and Byzantine times. Guests will also see a replica of the George Cross, commemorating Malta’s bravery, while acoustic duo Jodi & Ian perform soulful harmonies along the candlelit pathways.

A short walk away, the Domvs Romana offers a glimpse into Malta’s Roman past, where exquisite mosaics and artefacts reveal the lifestyle of a Roman aristocratic family. Harpist Laetitia Troisi De Menville provides the perfect serene soundtrack to this journey into antiquity.

Over at the National Museum of Natural History in the Baroque 18th-century Vilhena Palace, visitors can marvel at a mummified Nile crocodile, a fossilised crocodilian head from Gozo, and a tooth from the extinct giant white shark, all set to the enchanting violin melodies of Kathy the Violinist.

Admission is just €3, covering access to all three sites. To skip queues, visitors are encouraged to prebook online at Heritage Malta or purchase tickets at any Heritage Malta museum or at the door during the event.

Pro tip: Wear comfortable clothing and shoes, you’ll be walking between venues while soaking in centuries of history by candlelight.
