The 13 Coolest Flags Of Maltese Local Councils

Article Featured Image

Many find it hard to distinguish the exact point where one town in Malta ends, and another begins. But one thing is certain, the streets may be shared, but the identity is definitely unique. Here are some of the Local Council flags that highlight the creative spark of each locality.

1. Dingli

An interesting take on the usual cross, Dingli’s design stands out as a modern winner.

2. Marsaskala

A geometric nod to the town’s geography, and a fun use of colours and shapes.

3. Mtarfa

We’re not 100% sold on the green, but the hill’s incorporated as a ‘negative space’ is pretty damn cool.

4. Nadur

There’s something so pleasing about those waves and the bright yellow sun peaking out from behind. It screams dream destination.

5. Qala

The stars may be questionably jarring, but the boat’s sails are a gorgeous touch and have a fantasy-vibe about them.

6. Santa Lucija

Simple and stunning, the black background on this flag makes the whole thing stand out without too many bells and whistles.

7. Pieta

Just like Santa Lucija, Pieta’s black background adds a dramatic touch to an already-memorable avian creation.

8. San Lawrenz

An Art Nouveau flyswatter flanked by some 2D leaf decals – what more could you want?

9. Hamrun

You don’t need to go all out to stand out. This simple design does the job perfectly and embodies minimalism.

10. Kercem

Similar to Hamrun’s with a little bit more flair. Kercem’s flag is a shape-lover’s dream.

11. Marsaxlokk

When was the last time you saw purple on a flag? Or is it blue? Malta’s official answer to the blue and black vs white and gold dress.

12. Naxxar

Not to get too controversial, but as more and more people speak out against our current flag being a little too boring, Naxxar’s flag could be a good replacement. It features our colours, and a unique incorporation of a cross, all we’d need to do is work to make it a little less Swiss.

13. Isla

Those seashells add another level of cute to an already-eye-catching flag.
