Glorious September is just round the corner for people who are already over the Maltese summer heat, and at the risk of sounding like horoscope enthusiasts, it’s one of the most interesting months of the year.

Here are some things you should be looking forward to next month. Enjoy!

1. Back to school

OK, it might be a stretch convincing you it’s something to look forward to. But here goes.

School is a great place where you learn new things and somewhere you should look forward to going. You get back into the rhythm of academic life, so having to plan your days is no longer something to trouble you. And hey, you’ll be with all your friends again!

2. Football’s back

All football is back and properly already in motion.

No more reading Twitter and blogs for transfer speculation. Gone are the long Saturdays, the gruelling Sundays and the unbearable Tuesday and Wednesday evenings without the beautiful game.

We know we were lucky enough to have a World Cup this summer, but we’re spoilt kids, and we only want more.

3. End of summer parties

With the end of August comes a month to celebrate the time you’ve taken for granted and forget your sorrows before they’ve even began. Just wait for it.

We’ll be the ones laughing when your event feeds are littered with ‘END OF SUMMER –Generic party name-‘.

4. It can only get (slightly) cooler

Well it couldn’t get any hotter, let’s just put it that way.

It’s probably nothing to write home about, but with the last few weeks feeling like we’re playthings in Satan’s garden, even a degree colder will be highly appreciated.

Trousers and shirts are still going to be a brutal ordeal, but you might be able to sneak in a chilly hoodie during one of those end of summer BBQs.

5. Two public holidays

So we’ve got good news and bad news.

The good news is that we’ve got a Friday off, specifically 21st September, good old Independence Day.

The bad news is that 8th September, Feast of Our Lady of Victories falls on a Saturday. Oh well.

6. Less tourists mean emptier beaches

Thank you for visiting our lovely islands, you will be missed.

The space you free up on the beaches, parties, restaurants, pavements and shops on the other hand will be happily accepted. We might actually be able to go to beaches a bit later than 8am and still find a place near the sea.

7. Your own holiday

How do we know you booked a holiday you ask?

Maybe because September is the international month for “OMG school is coming, I need a holiday”.

You’ve had all summer to plan and save money, everything trickles down to this last month of freedom, before you’re buried in homework and assignments.
