Valletta Declares Christmas Season Officially Open With Massive Crib Installed At Triton Square
Now that Halloween is over, Christmas season is here and it’s only a matter of time until we start hearing all the Christmas classics blaring over shop speakers.
The city of Valletta definitely did not hold back before pulling out the first Christmas decoration of the year. Anyone entering the capital city from Triton Square was treated to a pleasantly seasonal surprise with the installation of a massive Nativity scene right beside the fountain.
The life-size crib features all the usual characters; Mary, Baby Jesus, Three Kings and all that… But there are also a couple of guests surrounding the scene that make the Nativity distinctly Maltese. These figures include two fishermen next to a traditional luzzu, San ?or? Preca, and a traditional Gozitan balcony.
The crib, constructed by Gozitan artist Manwel Grech, was initially displayed at St Peter’s Square outside the Vatican a couple of years ago. After that it was moved to Bethlehem, and eventually made its way back home.
