Valletta FC Supporters Take To The Capital City For Grand Celebrations Of 24th League Win
While Maltese football clubs might not frequently make it to the international circuits like everyone’s favourite teams, there’s still a certain level of rivalry and passion in there that can rival any country’s. And at the heart of it all, lie clubs like Valletta FC, one of the island’s most popular (and arguably best) teams. Last evening’s win over Gżira United saw Valletta FC collecting the three points needed for them to secure the crown of Premier League Champions… for the 24th time, no less.
Being the perfect excuse to party on a Saturday night, the celebrations started as soon as the game ended on the pitch, with fans and family having the time of their lives on and off the pitch. The sun hadn’t even properly set yet, but you could tell that a grand celebration was coming.
Soon enough, though, the crowd slowly started gathering back in the capital city (getting into a carcade or two on the way), where the team and the scores of fans were primed to celebrate the night away. And that they did.
Starting off at the Triton Square, the club and supporters got out a literal full-sized float (very bright lights included) to parade down the first part of Republic Street. Eventually, the players themselves paraded down the capital’s main road, on a van and surrounded by their most loyal fans.
Anthems blared on, flags were waved, and by the end, it felt like carnival had returned to Valletta… with a strict dress code, that is.
