Watch: Cranes Are Officially Part Of The Maltese Skyline – And This New Coffee Cup Proves It
A Qormi-based catering supplier has produced a new coffee cup celebrating all things Malta… and that includes cranes.
The front of the cup showcases the ubiquitous Maltese word MELA and the iconic Valletta skyline including planes, churches and steeples.
The thing which bares most significance, however, is the number of cranes embedded in the design of the skyline.
“Whether you like it or not, cranes are synonymous with Malta at the moment,” Longbow owner Ben Farrugia told BusinessNow.mt.

“If you had to ask people what they remember of Malta, the typical answers include Valletta, of course, but cranes too. That might not be the representation one would like them to have, but it is what it is.”
Many understandably are deliberating the underlying message behind the obvious graphic, even though Farrugia has stated that it ‘’was not meant to send any particular message.’’
Malta’s urbanisation is out of control; if one looks in any direction, at least one crane is bound to be seen.
It only makes sense that the coffee cup has this design on it, otherwise, it would have been unrealistic and untrue, which is inherently devastating.
Maybe the underlying message is simply – ‘it is time to embrace our new skyline’, because fighting it has proved to be futile.
What do you think about the new coffee cup design?
