WATCH: Migrant Worker Dangles Dangerously Off Building In St Paul’s Bay As He Hooks Up Makeshift Scaffolding

A video showing a construction worker hanging perilously off the side of a tall building has gone viral, with many commentators reminded of the fatal death of Akram Almshay, who fell to his death last November in a similar situation.

“Life-threatening danger in St Paul’s Bay. Unbelievable and sad,” said Michael Briguglio as he shared the video. He went on to say he had reported the situation to OHSA.

Some people wondered where health and safety officers were. “Seeing such stupidity, one would expect the health and safety officers to be on the premises straight away,” one comment read. “Where is the enforcement?”
However, others pointed towards employers as the main reason such practices occurred.

“Everyone seems to think safety officers are psychic and can turn up whenever something dangerous is happening,” one comment read. “The video reflects a dangerous method of working and not a fault on the part of authorities. As long as we comment, keyboard warriors.”

“I see almost everyone bashing the health and safety here,” said a third person emotionally. “I have been to construction sites where the health and safety officers came in, stopped everyone from working, because they don’t have helmets, safety shoes, or harnesses, and even give some people free safety shoes and HVV, yelling and shouting, telling them next time, ‘they are out of their jobs’. But after five minutes, once the health and safety officers leave, everyone goes back normal, as if no one spoke to them. Look – if you don’t care about your own life, don’t blame people, the authorities can’t be everywhere all the time.”
