Watch: Over 1.4 Million Views For Valletta Busker Singing In Malayali, A Classical Indian Language
Benny Grima, Valletta’s beloved 69-year-old busker who’s known to sing in every language, has gone viral internationally for his latest stint: singing in Malayalam, one of India’s six classical languages.
In a reel uploaded by @vishnuak_47, Grima can be seen perfectly pulling off the foreign language while consulting a diary with some notes, presumably containing pointers on how to pronounce some of the lyrics.

The video has already amassed over 1.4 million views and 220,000 likes, with many users praising his performance and joking about how the Malayali people are taking over the world one busker at a time
This isn’t the first time that Benny – who happens to be the father of popular DJ Ruby and the husband of Gozitan singer Tonia – made headlines for singing in a language other than Maltese or English.
“I sing in every language,” Grima had said last year, switching to Indian mid-song.
“People think I’m starving because I’m always here,” Grima had said in a 2020 interview about his constant presence in Valletta’s Republic Street. “But I only want to make people happy”.
And he definitely seems to have achieved that yet again, with his latest video putting a smile on people thousands of kilometres away.
Have you ever seen Benny perform in Valletta?
