Watch: Physical Altercation Between Passenger And Driver On Public Transport.

Another incident has erupted on Malta’s public transport system, with a dispute between a bus driver and a passenger escalating into a physical altercation. The confrontation, captured by bystanders, has sparked renewed concerns about safety, conduct, and the growing tension on the island’s transit network.
This incident happened Wednesday 16th July at 9.05pm on a public bus, route X300.
Another passenger reported that “the passenger and the driver had a verbal argument, and instead of de-escalating the situation, the driver got up and physically assaulted the passenger. The passenger did not appear to provoke the attack physically. It was shocking and unacceptable behaviour from someone in a public service role. No one should feel unsafe while using public transport.”
Lovin Malta reached out to Malta Public Transport and a spokesperson said as follows:
“Malta Public Transport strongly condemns the actions of the driver involved. This incident is currently being investigated and the relevant disciplinary process will be followed. Violence in any form will never be tolerated, and we thank you for reporting the incident directly so that immediate action can be taken. The driver has been identified.”
Later it was found out through CCTV that the passenger involved in the altercation tried to board the bus by tapping another non Tallinja card, blocking other passengers from boarding the bus to take his time to find the right card.
Footage also shows that this passenger proceeded to approach the driver’s cabin while the bus was moving and can be seen talking with the driver.
