Large rats are roaming the streets around Qawra as poor waste management reaches critical levels, according to frustrated residents.

“Qawra and Buġibba have turned into a slum,” resident Daniel Mountford, who filmed the rats, told Lovin Malta.

“Just before I took this video there were a couple of rats about 100 metres down the road. That’s why I had my phone ready,” he added.

Daniel shared the video to the Facebook group Proud To Live In St Paul’s Bay, a community which brings together residents from St Paul’s Bay and neighbouring areas of Qawra and Buġibba.

Several residents added their complaints about rats and cockroaches in the area being attracted by uncollected rubbish. Many said they had reported these matters to the Local Council but very little had been done.
