Watch: Youths Wear Suits To Watch Minions At Cinema As Global Trend Arrives In Malta
A trend that has seen scores of suited youths meet up to watch the latest Minions film Rise Of Gru has swept the world, and now Malta’s own meme community has joined in the fun.
The ‘Gentleminions’ trend involves large groups of teenage boys showing up to the cinema in their most formal attire to watch the new children’s film, holding their hands together, with only their fingers touching, mimicking the Minions villain Gru.

A number of TikToks from Malta show that the trend has also reached the island, with at least two such groups descending on Eden Cinemas since the film’s release. Two TikToks – by users Tristan Micallef and Nathan Chetcuti – have already amassed over 35,000 views.
Some cinemas in the UK have responded to the trend by outright banning groups of suited teens from watching the latest Minions film, due to youths applauding every couple of minutes and spoiling the experience for young children.

However, the trend has also fuelled speculation on the future of marketing campaigns targeted at Gen Z audiences, particularly as it helped the Minions film shatter box office records.
