Lovin Malta Has Its Own Live Show; Here Are The Pilot Episode’s Highlights
After what felt like a lifetime of preparation, Lovin Live, a new Facebook Live show, finally debuted last night, and it was everything we were hoping it would be… and then some.
Between celebrity guests Joseph Calleja and Valentina Rossi, and Chucky’s own antics, many laughs were had. Here are the highlights from the show, which ran just over half an hour.
1. Chucky and Ben Camille(ri)
The show started with the Big, Hard, Pressing Story segment, with this week’s highlight definitely being the news that local celebrity Ben Camille is getting his own reality TV show. Chucky kicked the episode off by talking a little about the issue, and seeing as the new show is called Benjamin, then why not go all the way? That Camilleri slip up was definitely an accident… promise.
2. Drowning those nerves in wine
As you do. Come on guys, Chucky’s star debut was stressful… but that’s nothing a glass (or two) of wine can’t ease! Of course, even Joseph Calleja got a glass, but as the celebrity tenor himself said, “Some men are more equal than others.”
3. A cameo by Lovin Malta CEO Chris Peregin… partially covering our SHIIIIIIEEEEEET sign
The segment for asking extremely personal questions and putting the interviewee on the spot in return for charity donations arguably had the best name, with a sign to go with it. Cue Lovin Malta’s CEO Chris Peregin walking in with the Shiiiiiieeeeeet… and accidentally hiding the last couple of letters.
4. Sitzpinkler and the biggest Fuck / Marry / Kill quandary ever
The Shiiiiiieeeeeet questions, which neither Chucky or Calleja had seen before, definitely delivered (you’re welcome Chuck!), and soon, viewers all over Malta and beyond found out that Joseph Calleja’s favourite sexual position is missionary, and that he was actually once asked by a German ex-girlfriend to pee while sitting down (it’s apparently called the sitzpinkler and it’s all the kinky rage). Oh and yeah, Chucky would choose to kill Ozzy Lino because of his Malti-Awstraljan accent, marry Peppi Azzopardi for the money and fame, and fuck Franklin Barbara because of that sexy hairstyle.
5. “Wait, is that guy in a wetsuit, face down in a dinghy full of water?”
Yes! Diver and instructor Fabrice Bonello DuPuis took up the challenge and stayed underwater (in an inflatable dinghy) for three straight minutes. But don’t worry everyone; he was in safe hands…
6. Introducing Dr Intern, the lowkey star of the show
Our social media intern Matthew Baldacchino is also a qualified doctor, and was behind the scenes while Fabrice went underwater. The comments kept asking for Dr Intern, and what do you know? They got him. Say hello to our new meme star everyone.
“Firm tap Matt, proset”
7. Joseph Calleja eerily pulling off Despacito
While Fabrice went underwater, Joseph Calleja embarked on a mission to sing covers of popular pop songs. And even though Calleja wasn’t super familiar with all of them, he absolutely killed Despacito. Which leads us to think; will the tenor be singing the hit song at the Granaries this summer?
8. The visible rise in views the whole stream got as soon as one particular guest walked in
The stream had hundreds of people watching at any given time, but there was one moment that saw the views peaking into a very evident ascent. People seemed very excited by Valentina’s arousing performance, as the viewership-graph rose uphill.
9. Valentina Rossi and Joseph Calleja impersonating each other… and the clear winner’s use of props
Sure, Valentina Rossi’s interpretation of Joseph Calleja was hilarious (“Con te’, partita, tsunami”), but seeing as they had met for the first time a couple of minutes before, Joseph Calleja excitedly standing up and excitedly shouting in a high-pitched voice was hilariously on point. Then, he just went and accidentally knocked down a glass of wine, and suddenly, the whole thing was everything.
10. The Disgusting Food Challenge… with Rossi actually wanting to try out each flavour
Did she just not get the rules, or was she just that interested in trying out the flavours herself? Whatever it was, it was amazing. Valentina and Chucky threw darts and made each other try out some pretty fucked up food combinations… but Rossi seemed to actually want to try out some of the combos that Chucky got.
11. That is, until it came to trying out cat food and a Kinnie Bigilla mix
It was all fun and games (ish) until the disgusting combos starting showing up, and between a Kinnie/Bigilla mix and actual cat food, Valentina and Chucky got close to hurling a couple of times.
Lovin Live would not have been possible without the help of V Squared Media‘s amazing crew, GO for our equipment, Kiabi for Chucky’s clothes, FORM for our lovely red sofa, Red October for the wine, and last but definitely not least, Light White Studio for our amazing set!
We also raised €200 for the BOV Joseph Calleja Foundation by answering some silly questions. Donate more here to support local young Maltese people who do not have the means to develop their big talents.
If you’ve got 30 free minutes, here’s the first episode of Lovin Live in all its glory. In the meantime, stay tuned for Episode Two, coming soon!
