Malta has just concluded its 2023 national Eurovision contest which saw the talents of The Busker take home the major victory.

However, PN MP Eve Borg Bonello had some serious critique for the presenter, and the competition as a whole, who thanked Culture Minister Owen Bonnici for “gracing them with  his presence”.

“5 minutes into the Eurovision and they’re already thanking a minister for gracing them with his presence,” Borg Bonello posted.

“Maybe this mentality and dependency is what holds the arts behind. This country desperately needs to change.”

On a more positive note, The Busker will be representing Malta at the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest with their song Dance (Our Own Party).

The trio – composed of singer Dav Jr, saxophonist Sean Meachen and drummer Jean Paul Borg – will travel to Liverpool to compete in the first semi-final on 9th May and will hope to qualify to the final on 13th May.

The group’s victory is extremely well-deserved after their performance garnered 121 points, including 80 points from the public vote. Meanwhile, Ryan Hili’s powerful ballad In The Silence finished second with 85 points and MATT BLXCK finished third with his song Up.
