Tighten Your Tuck: Malta’s First Drag Standup Show Is Happening This Weekend

Hot off the heels of Halloween, Tolqueen (aka our very own Chucky Bartolo) is here to give you something to really scream about… only this time, you’ll be screaming ‘Yaas queen’.

One Sweaty Lady, Chucky’s debut one-woman show, is ready to make the island a little bit more fabulous, one brutal joke at a time. Combining standup comedy with a lip-sync (or seven), the show will run for two nights, this weekend only, at the Malta Society of Arts in Valletta.

Asked what will be covered in the show, Tolqueen told us “Well, firstly my junk, with a lot of duct tape”.

“The show itself is a mix of cheeky jabs at local celebrities, fun performances and an over-analytical look into my life, which is hilarious for anyone but me, who’s stuck living it.”

“Sometimes, my mouth starts going before my brain can catch up, and when you’re talking to celebs like Ira Losco, that can get problematic”

A year into his hairspray-filled journey, Chucky has cemented himself as the island’s top drag queen, but it’s not all sequins and glitter.

“Some people in Malta aren’t exactly chill with what I do,” he explains, referring to the threats he’s received both online and in the streets.

“But that just makes me want to do it even more. If I can challenge people’s mentality and look fabulous while doing it, you better believe I’m going to squeeze myself into a corset and pack on some foot-long lashes.”
