Maltese Celebrities Come To Alex Alden’s Defence After X Factor Outburst Controversy
A number of high profile Maltese celebrities have come to the defence of X Factor Malta judge Alexandra Alden following a national backlash on social media after Sunday’s episode.
Everyone from X Factor contestant Ben Purplle, actor Alan Montanaro, Brikkuni frontman Mario Vella, Eurovision veteran Brooke Borg as well as fellow X Factor judge Ira Losco and a slew of other personalities left comments under Alex Alden’s 3am public apology.
X Factor Malta contestant Ben Purplle stood up for her comments – even though Alden had attempted to vote him off in the last episode
“I only have to say this, I’ve got to know Alexandra over the past few months. She’s a very down to earth person, honest. And expresses herself with no filters attached. I always appreciate her views of how things are, I’ve learnt a lot from what she had to tell me. Passionate people are edgy… I know for a fact. Keep it up”
While X Factor Malta judge Ira Losco said she reacted “in a very human way”
“I feel I need to step in and make some points on Alexandra’s post. Firstly I don’t think you needed to apologize Alex. You reacted in a very human way. Anyone would be upset in that same position. It’s not rocket science. Secondly if we are to end up with 4 contestants and one winner, people have to be eliminated. Public will always vote for who they like most and not vote for those they like least for whatever reason.
To all those here who comment that the “other” judges do not say what they feel. That’s called assuming.
We are all different and have different styles of judging and saying how we feel it.
Speaking for myself. I don’t need to be liked. My personality is as is. It’s how I’ve been since the beginning of my career.
Alex and I have plenty of chats backstage, at the panel and also while I’m driving her home after filming and we enjoy each other’s company. But we are different and our opinions differ. Doesn’t mean either of us are more honest or better people.
This fixation that to make someone feel better or they’ve done nothing wrong, we have to bring others down is f***ing childish. Make your point and that’s that.
Unfortunately Alex had the category that was at a disadvantage mainly because almost all acts were set up at bootcamp and that gave these artists less time to become units. It’s not anyone’s fault. Again Alex your reaction was one which showed us how much the mentorship meant to you.”
Brikkuni frontman Mario Vella said her outburst was genuine, but wasn’t so sure about her apology
To which she quickly replied
Other singers and well-known personalities also weighed in on the controversy
While a couple of politically-related viewers applauded Alden for making a public apology
And yesterday, X Factor Malta host Ben Camille also gave his view on the controversy
Alex Alden made a number of sharp comments on the last episode of X Factor Malta
After girl groups – both of who she was responsible for – Xtreme and 4th Line were sent home in a public vote that relied on the viewers, she tearfully used phrases such as “shame on you,” and “sacrilege” to describe their choices.
At one point, she just looked at the cameras and asked the Maltese public: “Really?”
