Maltese Paranormal Series You Need To Binge Watch This Weekend

Article Featured Image

Paranormal stories, haunted houses and rumours of family curses are always a delight to delve in. Everybody loves a good dose of paranormal every now and then, but sometimes the cringy kind is also appreciated.

If you thought that random American and British series are the only thing you can get, though, we’ve got some great news for you. Here are six Maltese paranormal series you absolutely have to watch.

1. Pandora

Pandora is a weird Ruth Frendo project focusing on UFOs and Maltese personalities talking about ghosts.

The CGI effects are amazing, and we seriously hope that someone brings Pandora back just for them.

2. Fenomeni

Fenomeni tells the story of two siblings taking on the island’s ghosts in psychic battles combats and suspenseful staring contests.

It has everything you’d need to curb your paranormal enthusiasm, from satanic worshipping to spiritual possessions.

3. Il-Lejl It-Tajjeb

Il-Lejl It-Tajjeb was a 2005 production which aired on Sundays, making teenagers all over the country feign sleep and clutch their bedsheets just in case some random drab fatat makes an apparition in their bedroom.

The program centred around holy apparitions, miraculous healing, ghosts and creepy folktales from around the island.

In a weird twist of fate, however, no trace of Il-Lejl it-Tajjeb remains on the internet. Maybe it was forever cursed? Goodnight children.

4. Erwieħ Imsakkra

Erwieħ Imssakkra is another paranormal gem. This one however seems to put more thought in fill shots and scenery — the first minute and a half of each episode is plagued with cat shots, old people sitting on benches, the narrator walking in gardens and trees rustling in the wind.

Both the narration and the re-enactments will keep you very well entertained. Although it is not entirely scary per se, the stories will still manage to keep you pondering about all them ghosts at night.

5. Enigma

The absolute OG.

Enigma was one of those old PBS series which held us captivated with stories of local ghosts, hauntings and even people giving first-hand experiences about ghosts they had allegedly witnessed. The production, although cheesy, showed that these people really tried their best to do their homework — research, interviews, you name it.

If you can get past the weird whirring sound in the background, this series will keep you immersed until you finish it all.

Also: The Jesus episodes are honestly really creepy.

6. Rajt Ma Rajtx

This is one of the most recent paranormal series this country has to offer. We don’t know if it’s the good acting or the crisper picture, but it kind of gives us the creeps whenever we watch it.

These short stories are also varied and just like Enigma, and they even carry out interviews with ghost seers. One of the creepiest episode is Il-Mara Fl-Inkwatru, where a fucking ghost portrait haunts people into submission.

Yep, that’s enough for one day.
